My Course Reflection Hey, welcome back to another Blog post! for this blog assignment I will be reflecting on how the course has gone so far. In the Reflective Writing video I had to watch, it talks about the proper way to reflect on things. There's actually a three step method that you should go by. Looking back at past events, analyzing, and projecting into the future are the three steps you can use to reflect on any event. Also, when you're reflecting, it's good to write about your thoughts and emotions during that time. I also read about reflective writing on Genres in Academic Writing. It basically talked about the purpose of reflective writing and how to get started with it. When you're talking about the event you're reflecting on you talk more about how you feel rather than the description of the environment or place you were at. Reflective writing helps make sense of what you did and how you will use what you did in the future. The acronym G.R.I.T.T helps transform our relationship with writing. G stands for: your genre awareness. R stands for: your rhetorical awareness. I stands for: your identity as an author. T stands for: your theory of writing. T stands for: your transfer of writing to future writing situations. So this blog post is basically going to be my reflection on this class. My thoughts and feelings on the way we learned throughout the course, even though the school year was cut short, I feel I have a good idea of how we learned using the writing process! So this blog post is basically going to be my reflection on this class. My thoughts and feelings on the way we learned throughout the course, even though the school year was cut short, I feel I have a good idea of how we learned using the writing process. First off let's talk about genre awareness. Genre awareness helps native and non-native learners of english improve, as it focuses on producing a whole text. It gives them greater language independence. For example, you can read a certain text and figure out the style of writing that's being used. From there, you're able to write your own text that is just like what you read but with your own story and in your own words. You're basically just using the same format/style to create your story. For our memories we had to do an experience that changed our lives in some way. For mine I wrote about the time me and my two friends got caught by the cops while on our way to explore an abandoned place. For our research papers we have to write about our opinion on a commonly discussed topic in the world today. For mine I decided to write about coronavirus and what we can do to help prevent it from spreading. I love the use of genre awareness. It's always nice to have an example of how your work should turn out when you're finished writing. It helps you figure out the vibe of the story and the formatting of it all. In this class we used this way of writing for mainly all of our work. If you ever needed an example of how your blog post should look you could just go onto someone else's website and see how they did things. It really helped out, it opened your mind and gave you ideas of how you would want to set up your blog post. The genre of my memoir was a narrative. So basically I wrote my story from my point of. As you're reading the paper you get to experience the emotions I was feeling that day. You also get to hear my thoughts, what I was thinking about in the moment. Now let's talk about Rhetorical awareness. Rhetorical awareness helps you with your professional writing. It helps you to create persuasive resumes, letters, reports, etc. For example, when you're writing a resume the goal is to get the job. In order to do that you must persuade the boss that you're suitable for it. You must do everything you can to make them think you're the perfect fit for the position you're going for. Rhetorical awareness is a great skill to learn for your future self after college. Obviously you're going to have to write resumes for the jobs you want. Whenever I have to write a resume I'll definitely think back to when we learned about rhetorical awareness in this class. It's really good to learn skills that are actually useful in the real world, because we didn't learn much about that in highschool. Alright so we did a lot with our author identity in this class. I really loved the concept of this. It allows you to have a better understanding of how your brain processes the thoughts you want to write down. Everytime I were to do an assignment I would think of my author self and how she would go about the assignment. It's a way of getting your mind into that creative state that you need when writing. My author self is called Rinzie. I chose this because Rinzie is basically my creative name. I use it for my photography and art accounts, those accounts use a lot of creativity, obviously. Your authorself is basically your creative side. The side of you that helps you write all your thoughts down. Helps you get into that writing mind set. What's your theory of writing? Well it's basically your current struggles, accomplishments, and abilities as a writer. I feel like in this class we did a lot with noticing what struggles we have with writing. Since we did that, it helped with shaping our author-selves and made us realize how much we can accomplish as writers. We have the ability to go back and work on final papers that we've turned in in this class. That shows that you can always fix things up to make them better. It's great how we were able to do that, not many classes work that way. With all the writing skills we learned in this class alot of it will be useful with future writing situations. Above I talked about rhetorical awareness and how it helps out with writing resumes for jobs you want. This is a great skill to have in the future. We all will most definitely be using this skill, so it's great that we were able to learn about it in this class. Overall I feel I've learned alot about writing in this class. I think my writing has improved from what it used to be. I also enjoy writing a little more now. I think that was mainly the overall goal that the teacher wanted.
